Yes, coprolite is exactly what it sounds like. Fossilized dung.
And yes, I’ve made jewelry out of it.
Fossil Finds: Where Paleontology Meets Lapidary
Fossilized dinosaur bone and coprolite are both considered agatized materials — meaning, over millions of years, minerals like silica slowly seeped into organic remains and hardened into stone. What you’re left with isn’t technically bone or poop anymore — it’s a stone version of it.
Dino bone in particular has these stunning cell-like patterns, often laced with red, brown, black, or even green, depending on what minerals filled the voids.
Coprolite? It surprises people. It can show up in swirls of caramel, lavender, rust, or marbled black and gold.
Why I Use It
Because I’m obsessed with unusual materials that have stories — and these are some of the oldest you can wear.
There’s a boldness in choosing to wear a literal fragment of deep time. A wink of rebellion. Jewelry made from fossilized relics isn’t for everyone, and that’s the point.
My collectors love pieces that start conversations, that make people say “wait, what is that?”
Plus, there's something deeply poetic about turning remnants of ancient life — once part of creatures roaming a primeval Earth — into something intimate and personal.
A pendant. A pair of earrings. A ring that quietly flexes your love of geology, history, and unconventional glam.
From Jurassic Thrills to Lapidary Love
Recently, my husband and I went full adventurer and spent five days exploring all the Universal Studios Orlando parks — including a first look at the newly opened Epic Universe.
To set the mood, we rewatched the entire Harry Potter series and the new Jurassic Park movie. Yes, we were that prepared.
Highlights? The VelociCoaster absolutely delivered. Between the Jurassic Park nostalgia, the upside-down chaos, and the sheer raptor energy, it totally mirrored what I love about working with fossils: raw power, beauty, and just a little prehistoric madness.
