Ruby in zoisite is made up of three different colors, the green is zoisite, black is hornblende, and red/pink is ruby.

While ruby has the hardness of 9, zoisite's hardness ranges from 6.5 - 7.


First discovered in Tanzania in 1954, ruby in zoisite is often used by lapidarists for carvings because of its interesting color patterns and used as cabochons and beads in jewelry.While the green zoisite is found in Tanzania, other colors of zoisite mixed with ruby can be found in Madagascar, Norway, Africa, Sri Lanka, any a few locations in the US.

Wash in warm soapy water. Can use a soft bristled tooth brush to clean. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners.
