Amber is more valuable and sought after as collector pieces if it incases organic matter. Copal is immature amber. To be called amber, it needs to be over 1 million years old. Transparent red amber has the highest value.

Amber can be found in many places across the globe. The major sources are the Baltic region, Dominican Republic, and Russia. Long ago people used to burn amber like incense.
